Blepharoplasty is an eyelid surgery procedure designed to correct excess skin, fatty pockets, and tissue slackening that cause a tired appearance. Performed at Phénicia Vision, it is part of a specialized approach to the eyes.
Objective: a more open, brighter, more natural look—without changing your expression.
What is blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty is an eye surgery that treats:
- drooping upper eyelid due to excess skin,
- bags under the eyes (fatty hernias),
- sagging skin on the lower eyelid,
- a heavy gaze that can sometimes reduce the field of vision.
When should you consider blepharoplasty?
Upper eyelids
- excess skin forming a fold,
- closed or heavy gaze,
- impression of "drooping" eyelids,
- difficulty applying makeup.
Lower eyelids
- persistent bags under the eyes,
- morning swelling,
- sagging skin with folds,
- dark circles that accentuate tiredness.
The procedure is common from the age of 40–45, but may be offered earlier when there is a family predisposition to bags or excess skin.
The different techniques of blepharoplasty
Upper blepharoplasty
The incision is hidden in the natural crease of the eyelid. It allows:
- to remove excess skin,
- to correct excess fat if necessary,
- to restore openness to the gaze.
Lower blepharoplasty
Depending on the indication, the incision can be made:
- under the eyelashes (subciliary route),
- or inside the eyelid (conjunctival route), without visible skin scarring.
The procedure allows fat pockets to be removed or repositioned and, if necessary, the skin to be tightened.
How is blepharoplasty performed?
✨ Medical blepharoplasty
Eye assessment & medical indication.
Marking of areas + topical anesthesia if necessary.
Treatment Application of CO2 laser to the eyelid.
Cream, sun protection, and local hygiene.
The immediate aftermath of treatment requires 3 to 5 days of recovery time due to swelling. A temporary break from work is recommended.
🩺 Surgical blepharoplasty
Eye analysis + preoperative photos.
tracing Precise drawing of natural incisions.
Local, sedation, or general anesthesia.
Skin/bag removal & repositioning.
finish Fine stitches in the natural fold + bandage.
Duration: 30–45 minutes. Same-day discharge with post-operative protocols.
Aftercare following surgical blepharoplasty and recovery
The usual consequences
- swelling of the eyelids for a few days,
- bruises around the eyes,
- slight tension or discomfort in the eyelids,
- possible dry eyes, relieved by eye drops.
Post-operative instructions are given to promote recovery: application of cold compresses, elevation of the head, sun protection, temporary cessation of makeup use.
Resumption of activities
- daily activities: within a few days, depending on comfort,
- working at a computer screen: gradual resumption,
- sport: later return to play, after medical clearance.

About the lower eyelids
The treatment of folds and bags under the eyes often involves a more extensive procedure than for the upper eyelid.
To ensure patient comfort and allow for precise correction, the procedure is usually performed under
short general anesthesia on an outpatient basis.
If you opt for upper eyelid surgery only, the ophthalmologist or plastic surgeon may
take the opportunity to smooth the lower eyelids with a CO2 laser.
